Notice needed to avoid drinking water crisis in AP, says Minister

“Unless the Krishna River irrigation projects are put under the control of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) there is every chance of the drinking water problems A.P. faced this summer recurring,” Minister of Water Resources D. Umamaheswara Rao has said. Addressing the media on Tuesday morning, a day after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wrote to Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti about Telangana’s request not to issue a notification to initiate the process of bringing the irrigation projects under the KRMB, Mr. Rao said that the prime objective of the letter was to ensure that the Centre issued the notice.

The Minister said that A.P. was not interested in getting even a single drop of water that was allotted to Telangana. He said that if the KRMB was not given the authority to supervise the distribution of the river waters, there was likelihood of the drinking water crisis recurring in A.P.
