A 25-year-old youth was murdered at Kuzhumani near here on Friday.
The deceased R. Sivakumar belonging to Chennakarai was working as a cook in a restaurant owned by M. Alangaraj (55) in Kuzhumanai.
Sources said Alangaraj reportedly extended loan of Rs.5,000 to Sivakumar a few months ago. An argument broke out between them when Alangaraj asked him to repay it immediately. In the scuffle that ensued, Alangaraj, who narrowly escaped with knife stab, attacked Sivakumar with an iron rod. He died on the spot. Jeeyapuram police registered a case and arrested Alangaraj.
