Workshop to promote robotics at Bharathidasan Institute of Technology

Faculty and principals of affiliate institutions of the Bharathidasan Institute of Technology, Anna University-Tiruchi, were briefed on the e-Yantra project during a workshop at the BIT campus here on Thursday.

The e-Yantra project supported by Union Ministry of Human Resources Development through the National Mission on Education through ICT aims at promoting embedded systems and robotics education in colleges across the country. S.Muttan, Dean, Regional office, BIT campus, Anna University-Tiruchi, inaugurated the workshop, and Saraswathi Krithivasan, professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, delivered the keynote address and explained the steps to set up e-Yantra Lab.

e-Yantra Lab Setup Initiative (eLSI) is a holistic approach to impart theoretical and programming knowledge to teachers through workshops, provide hands-on training to teachers through regional e-Yantra Robotics Teacher Competition, and help colleges set up their own robotics labs.

Sixteen labs were inaugurated in Mumbai under the pilot phase of eLSI in April last year.

Currently, over 30 colleges from various regions of the country are participating in the initiative.

In the current phase, the opportunity is extended to the colleges in the Tiruchi region to setup e-Yantra labs through the BIT nodal centre, according to a press release.
