Various organisations and educational institutions are getting ready to celebrate the International Women’s Day in a fitting manner across the district. Honouring women achievers, competitions for school and college students, workshops and seminars for women have been planned on that day.

However, the District Central Library in the city has embarked on a novel idea to celebrate the special occasion.

It has organised a week-long book fair exclusively for women at its premises for a week, commencing Wednesday.

A large number of books concerning women, their rights, their achievements in different fields world over, are on display at the book expo.

The works by renowned women authors of Tamil, English, and other languages, biographies of women achievers, provide added attraction to the fair.

Apart from women members of the District Central Library and other branch libraries situated in the city, the exhibition has elicited interest among the general public. This initiative is also to create awareness among the women on the books concerning women available in the government libraries, says A. P. Sivakumar, District Library Officer.
