Woman's torso found floating at Vamadam, search is on for head

Three police teams with each headed by an inspector set up to crack the case

After a headless body of a woman was found floating in a water body at Vamadam here on Wednesday, investigators carried out searches on Thursday in a bid to recover the missing head.

Split into teams, the police personnel searched the spot where the decomposed body was found, and in its vicinity. The services of city armed reserve police personnel were also sought for the search operations. Besides, corporation workers, police, and locals were involved in tracing the head in the water body, a few metres away from the railway track near Fort railway station.

However, their efforts proved unsuccessful. Searches conducted in the adjoining areas by the police personnel and by utilising a detective tracker dog too turned futile.

While carrying out search operations on Thursday morning, investigators commenced the exercise of tallying with the details of missing persons reported within the city police limits in a bid to establish the identity of the victim.

Police sources said that the victim could be in the age group of 15 to 30 years. The body has been kept in the mortuary at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.

Thillai Nagar police have booked a case on a complaint lodged by VAO, Puthur, under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure treating it as a suspicious death.

The city police have constituted three police teams – each headed by an inspector - and entrusted them with the task of detecting the case.

Another body found

Meanwhile, a decomposed body of a man was found on an open ground at Mahalakshmi Nagar near Palpannai roundabout on Thursday. The identity of the victim, aged around 50 years, is not known. Gandhi Market police are investigating.
