VVPAT ballot units arrive in Salem

The 417 Voter Verification Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) ballot units, which will be used in the 284 polling stations in Salem North Assembly constituency, arrived here on Thursday.

The Salem North constituency is one of the 17 select Assembly constituencies where the VVPAT units will be put to use.

This is the first time that the VVPAT will be used in any of the constituencies in Salem district. This machine will allow voters to know that their votes are cast correctly.

The ballot units with printers arrived from Madhubani district in Bihar and they were received by V.Sampath, District Collector, in the presence of the representatives of recognised political parties.

The VVPAT ballot units will be put to use in 17 Assembly constituencies in different districts in the State during the forthcoming Assembly elections, according to official sources.
