The main accused in the recent murder of two siblings of Tiruvanaikovil in the city, L. Kannan, who reportedly surrendered before the Srirangam Village Administrative Officer, was arrested by the Crime Branch-CID (CB-CID) here on Thursday as he was allegedly involved in another sensational double murder case reported at Vaiyampatti in the district in 2007.
The Pulivalam police were on the look out for Kannan in connection with the murder of Selvakumar of Tiruvanaikovil and his sister Sathya, whose bodies were dumped at Periyakattukulam village near Pulivalam recently. The police have arrested six persons, including Yamuna, the mother of the siblings, in connection with the case.
On Thursday, Kannan had surrendered before the Srirangam VAO and was handed over to the CB-CID officials in the city as he reportedly confessed to having murdered P. Durairaj of Anbu Nagar in Crawford in the city and his driver Sakthivel.

The charred bodies of Durairaj and Sakthivel were found in a car under a roadside tree at Savariyanpuram near Vaiyampatti on January 22, 2007. The case was transferred to the CB-CID in June 2011.
P. Perumal, Superintendent of Police, CB-CID, told presspersons here that the special team formed to investigate the Vaiyampatti double murder case was on the look out for Kannan.
The victim, Durairaj, is said to have had financial transactions with Yamuna’s husband, Thangavel, and used to frequent her house at Tiruvanaikovil.

Kannan, an acquaintance of the family, had resented the relationship between Durairaj and Yamuna.
On the morning of January 22, 2007, Kannan and his two accomplices, Saravanan and Muthukathan, had allegedly murdered Durairaj and his driver Sakthivel at Yamuna’s house.
The accused had later taken the bodies in Durairaj’s car, doused them in petrol and diesel, and set them on fire before dashing the vehicle against the roadside tree near Vaiyampatti, Mr. Perumal said.
Saravanan had been arrested by the CB-CID while Muthukathan is said to have died.
Kannan, Mr. Perumal said, had also confessed to have murdered Yamuna’s two children, Selvakumar and Sathya, and her husband Thangavel as well.
