It is not uncommon to find staff employed in hotels with many years of experience but little or no professional qualification. In an initiative to better their prospects and provide jobs in the hospitality sector for school dropouts, differently–abled and disadvantaged persons, government-sponsored, free, short-term courses in catering and hotel management would be conducted in Tiruchi.
The short-term programmes are sponsored by the State and Union departments of employment and training. In Tiruchi, the Jenneys Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management managed by Smt. Rani Adaikalraj Educational and Charitable Trust, has been authorised to conduct these programmes. On completion of the course, candidates would receive certificates from the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). While experienced but unqualified staff can return to their employers, persons with disabilities, destitute women, and those who have not passed plus two will be assisted by the institute. The academy will arrange for placements in various hotels and catering units, said M. Ponnilango, Director (Technical), of the institute. The duration of the courses and batches were flexible and would be fixed according to convenience of candidates enrolling in the programme.
