Traditional lamps on display at Poompuhar

Brass lamps of different types and sizes worth Rs. 75 lakh are on display at the traditional lamp exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited which commenced at its Poompuhar showroom here on Saturday.

Revathi Muthuswamy, founder director, Srirangam Bharathanatyalaya, declared the exhibition open.

Brass annam lamps of one feet to six feet height, five-foot-high Ganesh lamps and Lakshmi lamps, prabai lamps, annam hanging lamps, brass table lamps, Kerala Malabar and three-foot-high Lakshmi and Ganesh asthothra branch lamps, Balaji branch lamps are on display .

The other lamps that attract the visitors are mangala deepam, panchanlinga deepam, agal vilakku, kubera deepam, Ashtalakshmi and Kamatchi lamps. The main attraction of this exhibition is the six-foot-high brass annam lamp and Jesus Cross lamps.

The prices vary from Rs. 65 to Rs. 64,000, according to R. Gangadevi, manager, Poompuhar Showroom.

A special discount of 15 per cent is offered on all types of lamps. The lamps valued at more than Rs. 10,000 will get 15 per cent cash discount or 30 per cent value of free lamps instead of cash discount. The corporation has fixed a sales target of Rs. 8 lakh for the expo that will conclude on July 14.
