Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghatan, Chennai Region, has taken steps to start its third school in Tiruchi district on the premises of Golden Rock Workshop (GOC) during 2013-14. The proposal for the school is at a mature stage and once the final approval is secured from the board of governors of the sanghatan, the school will start functioning, according to a reliable source.
The school will be the first to be started in “civil” sector in the district. The two existing Kendriya Vidyalayas for the Ordnance Factory and neighbouring Heavy Alloy Penetrator Factory on the outskirts about 7 km off Mathur along the Tiruchi-Pudukottai Highway were started in 1966 and 1986 respectively in the “Defence” sector. The KV – 1 has a branch school at present functioning at Fort Station. Under the purview of the KVS Chennai Region, there are 40 Kendriya Vidyalayas in Tamil Nadu. Of them, 19 are under civil sector, 15 under Defence sector, and six under project/institutions of higher learning. The Railway Board has sanctioned 6.4 acres of land on the Golden Rock workshop premises for establishing a permanent campus. The suitability of the allotted land was determined last year by a senior official of KVS, Chennai Region, with regard to approach road, drinking water, and power.
Even if the final nod is obtained in June or July, the school could be started, the source said, referring to the start of KVs in Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, and Perambalur a few months after the start of the academic year.
