Tiruchi division railway employees cast vote on proposed indefinite strike

Railway employees owing allegiance to the All India Railwaymen Federation (AIRF) all over Tiruchi division and those working in the Golden Rock Railway Workshop here cast their votes during the two-day secret ballot that commenced on Friday to decide on the proposed indefinite strike in support of their charter of demands.

The Southern Railway Mazdoor Union, affiliated to AIRF, had made arrangements for distribution of ballot papers to enable railway employees’ exercise their franchise to decide if they were willing to go on strike or not. Boxes were kept at different places and the exercise was overseen by SRMU delegates at different places.

The 36-point charter of demands of the AIRF includes withdrawal of new pension scheme and implementation of the guaranteed pension scheme, elimination of contract system, 20 per cent reservation for wards of railway employees in examinations conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board and the Railway Recruitment Cell.
