Tiruchi district slips in pass percentage, State ranking

Delta region, except Karaikal, registers drop in performance

The overall pass percentage in Tiruchi district in Plus Two examinations declined to 92.90 from 95.5 last year. Likewise, its ranking dropped from 13 to 15.

In all, 32,715 out of 35,216 candidates from 288 schools passed. As in previous years, girls (96.32%) outperformed boys (88.82%).

Seven students scored above 1,180 out of 1,200. There were 169 students with score of above 1,151. As many as 145 students in Mathematics, and 155 in Accountancy scored centum in the subjects.

Out of 244 schools, 65 achieved cent per cent pass. The top-performing institutions included 12 out of 85 government higher secondary schools. The only higher secondary school functioning under Tiruchi City Corporation missed cent per cent pass by a whisker as one of the student out of 28 candidates failed.

Education district-wise, the overall pass percentage was 97.66 in Tiruchi, 95.47 in Lalgudi and 93.35 in Musiri.

Thanjavur

Thanjavur district recorded 90.25 pass percentage in the Plus Two examinations. The results, which were declared on Wednesday, showed a drop of 2.22% over last year’s pass percentage.

Of the 29.247 candidates — 13,116 boys and 16,131 girls — from 217 institutions, 26,395 (11,212 boys and 15,183 girls) passed. Last year, the pass percentage was 92.47.

The pass percentage of students among Adi Dravidar welfare schools was 88.53. And in government schools it was 84.37. Aided schools fared better at 91.31% pass.

Schools functioning under the Social Welfare Department registered 72.50% pass. However, self-financing and matriculation schools topped the chart with 97.31%.

Statistics show that one girl student secured more than 1,180 marks out of a possible 1,200. Forty others, including 31 girls, scored between 1,151-1,180. A total of 147 students aggregated marks between 1,126 and 1,150, while 245 students scored between 1,101 to 1,125. Another 1,799 students secured marks between 1,001 and 1,100. A total of 13,053 candidates scored less than 700 marks.

Tiruvarur

The pass percentage in Tiruvarur district was pegged at 85.49 which is 3.28% less than the previous year’s pass percentage.

Out of the total 14,225 students, 12,161, including 4,920 boys and 7,241 girls, passed this year. Three out of 85 government and aided schools achieved cent percent pass, while 15 out of 26 matriculation schools bagged the honour.

Nagapattinam

The decline in the overall performance — 2.11 percentage points — could be seen in Nagapattinam district too.

Out of 17,958 candidates, 15,438 passed the examination, registering overall pass percentage of 85.97. Out of 137 higher secondary schools, 21 secured cent per cent pass. They included two government higher secondary schools.

Karaikal

Karaikal district proved to be the only exception, with the pass percentage increasing by 2.57 percentage points over last year.

Out of 2,310 candidates, 1,918 passed. The overall pass percentage was 83.03, with three schools scoring cent per cent pass.

Pudukottai

Pudukottai district saw a dip in performance, with an overall pass percentage of 88.53 against 92.16 registered last year. The pass percentage was 93.02 among girls and 83.28 among boys. Of the 99 government schools, four achieved cent per cent results.

Ariyalur

The overall pass percentage in Ariyalur district was 85.38.

Out of 8,318 students, 7,102 passed. Out of 3,810 boys, 3,033 passed (79.61%). The pass percentage among girls was 90.26%.
