Tiruchi court hands out life sentence for murder

The Principal District and Sessions Court here on Friday convicted and sentenced a man to undergo life imprisonment for committing a murder in Tiruverumbur police station limit in March last year.

The Principal District and Sessions Judge P. Velmurugan also imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 on T. Velu alias Vasanth. A police press release here said Velu murdered R. Sankar by strangulating the latter and throwing a boulder on his head, and later dumped the body in a bush.

Velu bore a grudge against Sankar after the latter chided him for passing urine near a saloon shop along the Navalpat road.

The Tiruverumbur police arrested Velu and booked a case under different IPC sections including 302 (murder), the release added.
