Tiruchi cheers with 13 top three State rank holders

The SSLC class X results released on Friday gave Tiruchi district more than one reason to celebrate. The district that did not figure among the top honours in the plus two examinations, clocked a pass percentage of 95.14, the fourth highest in the State with two State first ranks to boot. Tiruchi also accounted for 13 top three state ranks, all bagged by girls, except one.

The district is well ahead of major districts like Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore. A total of 38,926 students from 391 schools wrote the exam this year. The girls as always outshone the boys with 96.89 per cent against 93.3. The revenue district has recorded a four per cent increase in pass percentage from 91.14 per cent recorded in 2012, said K. Selvakumar, Chief Educational Officer (CEO).

All the district toppers this year are State rank holders. M. Gayathri and D. Marcia Sherin, both from Montfort Higher Secondary School, and from Manjampatti near Manapparai, secured the top ranks in the district and State with a score of 498 out of 500. While Marcia scored four centums, Gayathri managed three.

There was no dearth in centums in all subjects except Tamil. While 1,044 students scored full marks in maths, 1384 scored the same in science and 922 in social studies. Ten students recorded a score of 100 in English. On the other hand, English accounted for the maximum number of students (1,435) who did not make the pass mark with Tamil coming in close with 1,122.
