Three die as roof catches fire in Tiruchi

On receiving an alert, a team of fire fighters rushed to the spot and battled for over an hour before putting out the flames.

A 42-year-old man and his minor daughter died in a fire that broke out in their thatched house at Dharmanathapuram here in the early hours on Tuesday.

The names of the victims were given as J. Adaikalaraj and A. Nisha (12). Among the four injured were Adaikalaraj’s wife Arokia Rose (37) and his son Lithish Newton (12).

Adaikalaraj was staying with his family in the thatched tenement on the upstairs of a house in which his brother was residing on the ground floor.

Police sources said the fire broke out at around 3 a.m. and the thatched roof was engulfed in flames charring Adaikalaraj and his daughter to death. His wife and son escaped with injuries.

On receiving an alert, a team of fire fighters rushed to the spot and battled for over an hour before putting out the flames. The injured were admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital here. The Palakkarai police have registered a case.

Last month, a fire accident in a thatched house at E. Pudur area here claimed the lives of four members of a family.
