R. Vaithilingam, Housing and Urban Development Minister, inaugurated a new bus shelter, a toilet complex, and a tar and cement approach roads at Thanjavur Medical College Hospital Complex here on Saturday.
The bus shelter was built with Rs. 5 lakh from MLA’s Local Area Development Fund. The Minister has contributed the amount.
The toilet complex was built at a cost of Rs. 10.70 lakh under the self-sufficiency scheme. Tar road had been laid at a cost of Rs. 8.85 lakh and cement road at a cost of Rs. 1.45 lakh.

“These facilities will help thousands of relatives of patients who visit the hospital every day,” the Minister said.
Thanjavur Medical College Hospital is a referral hospital and caters to the needs of nearly eight distircts. Nearly 4,000 outpatients come to the hospital every day besides another 3,000 at Rajah Mirasdar Government Hospital in the town. Nearly 1,000 in-patients were in the Thanjavur Medical College Hospital.
M. Rangasamy, MLA; K. Mahadevan, Dean, TMCH; K. Varadarajan, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency; Savithiri Gopal, Municipal Chairperson, and Amutharani Ravichandran, Chairperson, Thanjavur District Panchayat; took part in the function.
