Expecting the AIADMK leadership to nominate him once again to contest from Karur constituency, the party’s propaganda secretary and Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha M. Thambi Durai has begun groundwork by extensively touring the constituency.
According to sources, there are no serious contenders other than Mr. Thambi Durai for the Karur constituency. Though R. Chinnathambi, father of Health Minister C.Vijaya Baskar, sprang a surprise by seeking the party ticket to contest from the constituency, Mr. Thambi Durai, a five-time MP and former Union Minister, is certain to be nominated again by the AIADMK leadership, said AIADMK office-bearers here.
Besides visiting voters in Karur, Krishnarayapuram and Aravakurichi Assembly segments in Karur district, Mr.Thambi Durai has been meeting voters in Manapparai Assembly segment in Tiruchi district, Vedasandur in Dindigul district and Viralimalai in Pudukottai district, which are part of Karur Parliamentary constituency. As a part of preliminary work, he is meeting important personalities and party cadre.

Mr. Thambi Durai used to visit the Viralimalai segment in the company of Mr. Vijaya Baskar, who represents the constituency in the Assembly but the minister was conspicuous by his absence during the recent visits of Mr. Thambi Durai to villages in Viralimalai constituency.
“Whether he has fulfilled the promises given to the electorate or not, he basically wants to send a message that he works for the people,” says an AIADMK leader.
