Technology-oriented policing in Perambalur

22 surveillance cameras, including 14 advanced internet protocol cameras, installed across town

Technology-oriented policing has been introduced in Perambalur to beef up surveillance to check crimes, and for better regulation and management of traffic. A chain of sophisticated surveillance cameras have been installed at vantage points under the initiative to enhance vigil in the town.

The cameras are connected to the police control room where a LED screen has been fixed to enable police personnel monitor the activities taking place at the vantage points round the clock.

In all, 22 surveillance cameras, including 14 advanced internet protocol cameras equipped with infrared facility to provide clear visuals of the activities taking place even during night hours, installed. The cameras have been put up at 10 important places, including new and old bus stands, Palakkarai, Kamaraj arch, four road junction, near government hospital, and Sangupettai.

The surveillance mechanism has been introduced in such way that the Perambalur Superintendent of Police could monitor the activities in real time. A software has also been installed in the SP’s smart mobile phone to monitor the movements from the hand-held instrument. The cameras have one-month data back up capability. The idea behind the policing initiative is to enhance surveillance and for better regulation and management of traffic movements in Perambalur town, says the Superintendent of Police, Sonal Chandra. The cameras have been put up by a private company under sponsorship with approval from the district administration, the SP said.

The Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, M.Ramasubramani, commissioned the system at the District Police Office on Saturday.
