Tamil University to receive ₹ 20-crore Central funding

The Tamil University here has planned to augment infrastructure and amenities required for researches with the ₹ 20 crore funding expected from the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development under Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme.

Hitherto, educational institutions functioning under the Higher Education Department alone have received financial assistance through RUSA scheme. For the first time, the Tamil University, Thanjavur, is all set to receive the assistance through RUSA scheme, Vice-Chancellor G. Balasubramanian said. The funding pattern would be in the ratio of 60:40 between the Union and State governments, he added.

Meanwhile, projects have been taken up by 40 educationalists to utilize₹ 21 lakh, allocated by the State government earlier and new proposals were being mooted to utilize ₹ 1.75 crore, allocated but yet to be released by the University Grants Commission under 12th Five Year Plan, for undertaking research and development works at the university, he said.

Recently the Tamil University has received B+ accreditation status from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council by securing 2.52 points after the inspection by the NAAC committee during October last year.
