Taking a cue from Vaali, activist pens songs on life of fisherfolk

ARIF leader comes out with 10 numbers

“Thaniyaai vanthor thunivai thavira thunaiyaai varubavar yaaroo” this moving line of lyricist Vaali in MGR’s blockbuster ‘Padagotti’, bringing to light, the plights of fishermen has often turned him emotional, U Arulanandham, who had been fighting to protect the interest of fishermen, said.

Mr. Arulanandham took inspiration from Vaali to come out with 10 songs on the dreadful lifestyle of the fisherfolk. The fisherman-turned activist, heading the Alliance for the Release of Innocent Fishermen (ARIF) and hailed as ‘theevu kavi’, has penned and set tunes for the songs

He has produced the CDs with the support of Dhan foundation.

At a function chaired by Commandant N.V. Ramarao, Station Commander of the Mandapam Station of Indian Coast Guard, Additional Director of Fisheries G.S Sameeran released the CD at Thangachimadam in Rameswaram on Tuesday and it was received by M. Ilango, president of National Fisherfolk Forum.
