Women candidates sitting for competitive tests, by virtue of reservation, have additional advantage over men. Taking advantage of this, young women graduates and post-graduates should improve their skills with a bit of effort so as to fully utilise the reservation for them, said A. Navaneethakrishnan, Chairman of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, here on Friday.
Speaking at the college day celebrations at Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Mr. Navaneethakrishnan said there was stiff competition for recruitment tests being conducted by the TNPSC. Citing a specific example, he said that for the recruitment of 5,566 incumbents for Group IV category, 14 lakh applications were received. Of them, 12 lakh candidates appeared for the written test.
Pointing out it was a tough task for the candidates to clear the competitive examinations, he said that the special quota for women would come in handy for the graduates. He appealed to the students to utilise the opportunity for women. S. Subbiah and V. Rajagopalan, both members, Vice-Chancellor Committee, Bharathidasan University, appealed to students to develop values. They appreciated the efforts being taken by the college management in nurturing the talents of students. S. Vidhyalakshmi, principal, read out an annual report. S. Kunjithapatham, secretary of the college, and Thotta P.V. Ramanujam, president of the college, spoke.
