The district administration on Monday initiated the exercise of Socio, Economic, and Caste Census–2011, for identification of BPL (below poverty line) families in rural and urban areas.
Of the 33 charge centres functioning from block offices, municipality offices, town panchayats, and zonal offices of the corporation, 14 are in rural areas with 2,779 enumeration blocks and the rest in urban areas with 2,386 blocks, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan told reporters.
The 1,289 enumerators–695 in rural areas and 594 in urban areas–constituting panchayat secretaries, noon meal organisers, and anganwadi workers have been trained to utilise tablet PCs for undertaking the paperless exercise of collecting data pertaining to vocation, educational qualification, caste, income, asset and land holding, disability, and other particulars. Their work would be supervised by 216 supervisors – 116 in rural areas and 100 in urban areas – in the cadre of deputy block development officers and deputy tahsildars. Further, zonal officers have been appointed to monitor the activities in the charge centre and enumeration blocks. A total of 1,505 data entry operators have been appointed for the SECC work over the next 40 days, the Collector said.
