In an attempt to spread awareness of dengue and its prevention, Anbalayam and Lebara Foundation recently organised a campaign at the Kottapattu Sri Lankan Refugee camp. The campaign, which made displaced children within the camp its main focus, was flagged off by N.Jeyamani, Special Deputy Collector, Kottapattu Sri Lankan Refugee Camp.

Speaking at the event, Ms.Jeyamani said dengue was a viral fever that was now challenging the society and keeping communities in a state of panic. She also reiterated the importance of prevention over cure.

The campaign hoped to spread basic preventive measures such as covering of water tanks, containers, drums, and buckets; disposal of plastic and paper cups, tyres and bottles where rain water may collect; and using mosquito nets for sleeping among other measures. The children from the camp who took part in the campaign raised slogans and carried placards regarding the importance of such control measures. hildren went around the camp distributing preventive medication and disposing tyres, bottles and cans and covering open water collectors.
