New mechanism to reduce delay in issue of passport

The Tiruchi Police has put in place a new mechanism for speedy collection of police verification forms of passport applicants of the city from the Passport Office to reduce delay in issue of passports.

Under the new system that came into effect early this month, a police constable is deputed to the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to collect the police verification forms along with documents in respect of the passport applicants of the city.

Upon collecting the printed documents kept police station wise from the PSK, the constable would deliver them to the respective station immediately.

Depending on the number of police verification reports (PVR) every day, one or more constables at the Commissioner’s office would be engaged to upload it on the online system to enable applicants ascertain the PVR status.

The constables would also hand over the verification reports already completed.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, City Crime Records Bureau has been designated as the nodal officer to monitor timely and speedy receipt of PVRs from the respective police stations prior to sending them to the Passport Office, say police sources.

Old method

In the earlier system, the Passport Office would send the complete list pertaining to PVRs at periodic intervals to the Commissioner’s office by post.

Constables from the respective stations would collect them once a week.

The new mechanism put in place in consultation with the State Police headquarters is aimed at simplifying the verification process and reducing time delay in issuance of passport.

Instructions had been given to the Inspectors to conduct the verification and send the PVRs at the earliest, say the sources.

Pendency reduced

The pendency in PVRs had reduced substantially with the City Police now having forms from October 15.

The Constable deputed for the task would also hand over report containing any adverse remarks of applicants by the police to the Passport Office.

The Commissionerate has under its jurisdiction 14 police stations, of them 12 are manned by inspectors.

The new mechanism has been circulated to all Inspectors and Assistant Commissioners of Police.
