Special ‘pujai’ was performed at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple on Wednesday using holy waters brought from different places for universal prosperity and welfare. In all, 1,001 ‘kalasams’ containing the holy water were used for the thirumanjanam of Namperumal and Sri Ranganayaki.
According to temple sources, similar ritual was performed several decades ago and is being revived now.
The rituals commenced with offering of holy waters by 9-30 a.m. and lasted for about six hours. It was followed by special thirumanjanam with honey and other holy articles.
