Shoppers are in for a treat at Poompuhar this festive season

Crib sets, figurines, Thanjavur paintings, gemstone jewellery displayed in the expo

A large variety of eye-catching gift articles worth a few lakh rupees have been displayed at the annual Christmas and New Year festival exhibition organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, which commenced at its Poompuhar showroom in Tiruchi on Monday.

Figurines of Christ, Mary, and other saints in papier mache, clay and marble, crib sets of different sizes, brass flower vases, bowls, silk stoles and scarves; silk wall hangings; silk and velvet paintings, Thanjavur paintings; rosewood panels; gemstone jewellery are on display.

Also displayed are array of dress materials like ghaghra choli, chudidars, tops, skirts, Lucknow chiken work, Madurai sungadi sarees, printed cotton sarees, designers sarees, synthetic silk sarees, bedspreads, ladies hand bags, cushion covers, wall hangings.

The price of handicrafts displayed range from Rs.200 to Rs.5,000. The Poompuhar has set a sales target of Rs.5 lakh this season.

The showroom managed an achievement of Rs.2.5 lakhs during last year’s expo, according to A.N.Xavier, manager, Poompuhar showroom.

Fr.Albert Muthumalai, principal, St. Joseph’s College, inaugurated the exhibition, which will be continued till December 31.
