RPF head constable attacked near Tiruchi

A head constable attached to the Railway Protection Force was stabbed by his neighbour at Palayanallur near Mannachanallur on Saturday evening following a wordy duel between them. The head constable Rengaraj, 55, is undergoing treatment at the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital in Tiruchi.

The Manachanallur police has arrested Kovendran, 35, and his father Vannamani, 60, on the charge of attacking the head constable. Police sources said the head constable and Kovendran were neighbours and there was a long standing dispute between them on using a small lane dividing their respective residences. A wordy quarrel erupted on Saturday between them.

The duel took a turn for the worse and Kovendran allegedly attacking the head constable with a sharp weapon. Initially, the injured head constable was admitted to the Manachanallur Government Hospital and thereafter shifted to the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital in Tiruchi for higher treatment. The Manachanallur Police has registered a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) against Kovendran and his father.
