Retirees demand quick settlement of benefits

The members said that gratuity benefits of retired employees since January 2013 has not been settled.

Members of the State transport and transport corporations’ retired employees’ welfare association has urged the district administration to help retired employees of the corporation to get their retirement benefits without further delay.

In a petition to District Collector Jayashree Muralidaran on Monday, the members said that gratuity benefits of retired employees since January 2013 has not been settled. Further, the funds accrued under ‘social security scheme’ implemented jointly by trade unions and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation was yet to be sanctioned to retired employees since November 2012.

Further, the encashment benefits for earned leave were yet to be sanctioned for retired employees since December 2011.

M.Shanmugam, Tiruchi branch secretary, said that the gratuity should be disbursed within 30 days from the date of superannuation. Under social security scheme, a sum of Rs.5 was contributed by each employee and was utilised for the benefit of retiring employees.
