A report will be submitted to the party high command on February 28 based on the feed back gathered from party cadres on ways to strengthen the Congress in Tamil Nadu, said Mukul Wasnik, All India Congress Committee general secretary, here on Wednesday.

The views of the party office bearers and workers at the district and block level were sought on what should be the future course of action of the Congress in Tamil Nadu and at the national level.

“The exercise has been very fruitful and a number of suggestions have been received,” Mr.Wasnik said, speaking to reporters here ahead of a meeting with party office bearers of Tiruchi region here.

The reports of the State units would be discussed at the Congress Working Committee and the AICC would take appropriate decisions.

One of the important suggestions received during the exercise was that the party should approach the local body elections with equal importance attached to Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Henceforth, the party will take the grass root level elections seriously, Mr. Wasnik said.

Answering a query, Mr.Wasnik said that the land acquisition ordinance introduced by the BJP was unacceptable. The ordinance brought by the BJP amounts to a return to the 1894 British law, he said.

TNCC president EVKS Elangovan bemoaned the absence of a unified voice in Tamil Nadu on important common issues such as the move to construct dams across Cauvery River at Mekedatu by Karnataka government. In other states, all parties stood united on major issues.
