An integrated building for the registration department, and new buildings for 17 sub-registrar’s office are under construction in Tiruchi region at a cost of Rs. 9.02 crore, said M.C. Sampath, Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration, here on Wednesday.
Chairing a regional-level meeting to review the functions of the registration department in Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Karur, and Ariyalur districts, Mr. Sampath said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had ordered construction of buildings for all sub-registrar offices within five years, which are currently functioning on rented premises.
Plans are afoot to build new buildings for eight more sub-registrar offices in the region and two of these buildings would have solar systems. The State government, he said, had taken steps to conduct enquiries at the level of the district registrar into any irregularity in registration. Public have benefitted by the registration of all power of attorney documents aimed at preventing malpractices. The installation of monitoring cameras at sub-registrar’s offices and the introduction of token system and ‘e step-in’ systems would benefit the general public.

The registration department has recorded an income of Rs. 350.71 crore till December-end in the current financial year, which was 11.01 per cent higher than the income recorded during the same period the previous year.
Mr. Sampath instructed officials to conduct enquiries into complaints on the guideline value of property from public and initiate appropriate steps immediately.

Earlier, Mr. Sampath reviewed the functions of commercial taxes department with officials from Tiruchi, Karur, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, and Pudukottai. He instructed the officials to initiate prompt action against tax evaders under the Revenue Recovery Act.
