‘Provide reservation to Muslims in proportion to their population’

The Tamilaga Masjids Ikkiya Jamath (Ahlul Sunnath Wal Jamath) urged the Centre and State governments to take steps for providing 7 to 15 per cent reservation for Muslims in the field of education and job in proportion with their population in the respective States.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the inaugural function of the Jamath held in Tiruchi on Saturday. By another resolution, the meeting called upon the Centre and all the State governments to release the innocent Muslims who have been languishing in the prisons across the country for a long time without trial.

The meeting urged the State government to increase the 3.5 per cent reservation for Muslims in the educational institutions and job opportunities to 10 per cent. The State government should withdraw the Compulsory Marriage Registration Act. It should direct acceptance of the marriage register certificates given by the government town khazi of the respective districts as it is.

The records of some

khabrasthans (burial grounds) in the control of Muslim jamaths are classified as ‘mayana purampokku’. The government should take steps for changing this nomenclature to enable the mosques to get patta without any difficulty. The government should also simplify the procedures for getting permission for constructing mosques. By yet another resolution, the Jamath urged the State government to provide all the benefits to Muslim community without any delay. The government should also come forward to provide subsidy to teachers employed with minority-run institutions. The meeting also decided to take various problems confronting the Muslim community to the notice of the Chief Minister for getting them resolved at the earliest.
