POWER to conduct entrepreneurship programmes

Referring to the vision of Jawaharlal Nehru on empowering small scale industries, Mr. Pattabhiraman said only the SSI sector has the potential to solve the employment crisis.

Periyar Organization of Women Empowerment and Renaissance (POWER) has become a partner institution to National institute of Micro Small and Medium enterprises (nimsme), Ministry of MSME, New Delhi, for conducting Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programmes (ESDP) and Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP) in Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam district.

During this financial year so far, POWER has completed three major trainings sponsored by the Hyderabad-based nimsme: in food processing in Tiruchi and Coimbatore districts, and one train the trainers programme in Tiruchi, in association with the R.K. Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre, which also joined hands with the Periyar Technology Business Incubator to impart training in sheet metal works.

At a function organised here recently by the Skill Development Centre in association with POWER and Periyar TBI, B. Pattabhiraman, Managing Director, G.B. Engineering Enterprises, handed over certificates to the participants of the training programmes.

Alongside the rise in population, growth could be brought about through a focus on innovation and technology.

GB Industries, he said, pioneered the concept of training women welders. There were no 37 women welders in the industry, he said.

Periyar TBI, a panel member of Rajiv Gandhi Udyog Mitra Yojana, conducted 19 ESDPs and EDPs last year, its Project Director C. Ramaswamy Desai said while H.Parveen, Secretary, POWER, said ESDP trainings will be offered to 250 persons in Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.

Offering felicitations, K. Sudhakar, Vice-President Rane TRW Steering System Ltd., Viralimalai, spoke on the organisation’s globally-acknowledged expertise in Total Quality Management.

N Kanagasabapathy, Managing Trustee, RK Trust; and Murugeswari, Head In-Charge, Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University; and Suresh Kumar, former Regional Deputy Director, Department of Employment and Training, spoke.
