Police case against Thowheed Jamath office-bearers

October 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The city police have booked a case against two office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) for a speech that is allegedly prejudicial to the maintenance of public harmony and disobeyed police proceedings. The case was booked a couple of days ago against Kovai Rahmathullah – the organisation’s State audit committee member and Jahir Hussain – the TNTJ district president.

Police sources said both two took part in a demonstration called by the TNTJ in the city recently demanding action against those who lynched a 50-year-old man near Dadri in Uttar Pradesh a few days ago over rumours that he had eaten beef.

The sources said during the demonstration the two had spoken in a manner inciting communal feeling prejudicial to national integration, besides holding out a threat with dire consequences. They also disobeyed police order, the police said.
