Parties briefed on by-election norms

Political parties and candidates have been asked to ensure that there was no disturbance to educational institutions and places of worship on account of their campaign for the by-election to the Tiruchi West constituency.

At an all-party meeting held here on Friday, convened by K.Sampath, Revenue Divisional Officer (in-charge), Tiruchi, representatives of political parties were briefed on the do's and don't for the by-election by Revenue and Police officials. Campaigning should be carried out only between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Candidates should regularly submit their accounts. An Expenditure Observer has already been appointed by the Election Commission. Nominations would be accepted from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from September 19 to 26, except September 25 (Sunday). The nominations would be taken up for scrutiny on September 27 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is September 29.

Information with regard to the by-election could be obtained from the Returning Officer over the telephone by dialling 2415734. Complaints, if any, can also be lodged over the same number.
