A fisherman from Pamban, who had gone to Saudi Arabia on contract fishing, has drowned when the boat in which he was fishing with others, collided with a vessel on Thursday morning, according to reports received by the fishermen leaders here.

The fisherman, identified as J. Braimic Ignatius (25), had gone to Saudi Arabia six months ago and was fishing with four other fishermen when the accident occurred, M. Patrick, former Pamban panchayat president, said.

After the collision, the fishermen jumped into the sea in a bid to escape.
