Over 1,000 rally in Trichy to promote organ donation

An organ donation awareness rally was organised to observe World Kidney Day by Rotary International District 3000 and Kauvery Hospital in the city on Thursday. School and college students, including nursing students, hospital staff, and members of the 14 Rotary Clubs in Rotary District 3000 participated in the rally.

S.Gopal, district governor Rotary District 3000, flagged off the rally in the presence of Dr. A. Subramaniyan, senior medical administrator, Kauvery Hospital.

The rally that commenced at State Bank of India, Bharathiar Salai, passed via head post office, Campion School, Iyappan Temple, Vestry School, and concluded at Kauvery Heart City.

More than 1,000 persons participated in the rally. Students from rotaract and interact clubs of more than 20 educational institutions participated in the rally. The participants carried placards and shouted slogans to create awareness.

“We want to motivate people to donate organs and save lives. One person can posthumously donate six organs,” said Dr.Subramaniyan.

An organ donation awareness meeting was organised in the evening, during which medical practitioners deliberated on various aspects of organ donation.
