Divisional Railway Manager Manjula Rangarajan inspected the track doubling work being executed in the 25-km stretch from Kallakudi Palanganatham to Ariyalur on Thursday.
The doubling work, including electrification, is executed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a Government of India Enterprise, at a cost of Rs. 100 crore.
The inspection was carried out to ascertain the progress of work prior to inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Senior officials of the Tiruchi railway division and the RVNL accompanied the Divisional Railway Manager.

The section consists of four stations, seven major bridges and 31 minor bridges.
The longest bridge with nine spans has been built across the Maruthayar. New station buildings had been built at Kallagam and Sillakudi as part of the doubling project. Modification had been made in the existing station building at Ariyalur to incorporate signalling systems and to provide spacious work space to the operating staff.

The project was sanctioned in 2011-12 financial year, a Southern Railway release here said.
The doubling work is proposed to be completed by February, said a senior railway official.
