New PGPM batch at IIM-T goes through holistic orientation

Briefed on curriculum and culture

The new batch of PGPM at IIM-Tiruchi gained a wide perspective on the corollary between the thrust given to learning activities and career progression during a week-long orientation by faculty members and experts drawn from various fields.

While chairpersons of various committees and activity heads of the institution briefed them on the academic curriculum and culture, course offerings, student activities, administrative functioning, learning resources, placements, hostel facilities, international exchange, IT infrastructure, academic honesty, case discussion and experiential learning pedagogy, special sessions on government policies, decision-making, stress management, general health, team building and motivation were handled by experts.

The orientation commenced with an inaugural talk by Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, MD & CEO, ‘Lahari’ - Advanced Electronics Testing Facility, and Jibitesh Rath, General Manager (HRD), NMDC Ltd., on how to invest in learning and other activities so as to launch themselves in higher career orbits at the end of two years. They were also exposed to the entrepreneurial aspects by R.M.P.Jawahar, Executive Director, TREC-STEP.

Special sessions were handled by a team of experts including Swapnil Tewari, Sociopreneur - Livemad Foundation, Ambassador- UNESCO SDG Inclusive Education 2017-18; M.V.N.Rao, Group Head (HR), L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Ltd; Arun Malhotra, Former Managing Director and Senior Corporate Advisor, Nissan India; and Hemalatha Bhat of Tamil Nadu National Law School.

Stimulation sessions

The programme also included day-long simulation sessions for initiating students into team activities to gain glimpses of decision-making process in real life scenario. The orientation programme concluded with a motivational talk by Rajeev Dubey, President, HR & Corporate Services, Mahindra & Mahindra.

Director of IIM - Tiruchi Bhimaraya Metri said the orientation week enabled the new batch to have glimpses of the institution's culture, focus and ethos.

The orientation week was an opportunity for the new batch to settle down, interact and bond with each other, with seniors, faculties and staff before taking a plunge into academic activities, Godwin Tennyson, PGPM Chairperson, said.
