A new government industrial training institute (ITI) has taken shape at Sembodai near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district.
The third ITI in the district was launched in temporary buildings of Government Higher Secondary School at Sembodai by Textiles Minister O.S. Manian on Monday in the presence of Collector S. Sureshkumar and other senior officials.
The other two ITIs in the district are at Palpannaichery in Nagapattinam and Thirukuvalai.

The new ITI will have a capacity to admit 216 students in one and two-year programmes offered under SCVT (State Council of Vocational Training).
The sole one-year programme is Diesel Mechanic course, and the four two year programmes constitute Spinning Technician, Electrician, Land Surveyor, and Mechanical Maintenance (Chemical Plant)
The new ITI at Sembodai was one of the two ITIs for 2019-20 announced in the Assembly by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami under rule 110.

The other ITI was promised for Perumbakkam in Nagapattinam district.
The district administration invited applications for the new ITI at Sembodai last month with August 20 as the deadline. The last date was extended to September 16 for the new ITI and for filling vacant seats in the two existing ITIs as well.
The new ITI, to be run with the support of Bharat Petroleum Corporation, under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, would be shifted out of the once a permanent facility was created, Mr. Manian said.
