Infosys founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, will be the chief guest of the 13th convocation of National Institute of Technology-T on Saturday, according to its director Mini Shaji Thomas.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, she said Mr. Murthy was one of the brilliant minds of the country and his visit would be a milestone in the history of NIT. His presence would motivate the students.
His vast experience in the Information and Technology would be immensely beneficial to the students. He would also inaugurate gold jubilee convention hall, she added.

Later, Mr. Murthy would lay the foundation stone for a new building to commemorate the golden jubilee of Chemical Engineering Department and interact with the students.
Ms. Thomas said that it had been decided to confer the degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) on N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, TATA Sons. He was an alumnus of NIT (formerly Regional Engineering College). The senate of NIT was unanimous in its decision to confer honorary doctorate on Chandrasekaran.
He was the second person to receive the honorary doctorate next only to NIT’s (then REC) founding Principal Professor Manisundaram.

She said 1,649 students, including 46 B.Arch, 814 B.Tech, 663 M.Tech, 71 MSc, 88 MCA, 46 MBA, 37 M.S. (by research) students and 85 doctorates, would receive the degrees in the 13th convocation.
Amrith Rajagopal Setlur of B.Tech, (Computer Science and Engineering) and Yashvi Singh of B.Tech (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering) would receive the President’s Medal for overall highest Cumulative Grade Point Average.
Institute medals would be presented to nine B.Tech, one B.Arch, 22 M.Tech, three MSc, one MCA and one MBA students.
On filling up of faculty positions, which were lying vacant for so long, Ms. Thomas said the NIT council had recently framed new rules for recruitment of faculty members. It had been approved also. A few queries had to be addressed on it.
Steps would be taken to begin the recruitment process shortly.
She added that a new M.Tech. programme on Data Analytics had recently been launched.
Consequent to the successful completion of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) phase I and II, TEQIP III had been sanctioned.
It was a proud moment for all NIT-T graduates that the institute had won the prestigious CII-AICTE best industry linked institute competing among IITs, NITs and IIITs.
The institute also received national level awards from FICCI for social excellence and employability and from ASSOCHAM for best Institute to use ICT tools, the Principal said.
