Muthulakshmi Reddi remembered

Muthulakshmi Reddi’s services were remembered in Pudukottai on her birth anniversary on Tuesday with Pudukottai Government Medical College Hospital and other hospitals observing it as ‘Hospital Day’ as per a government decision.

Speaking at the event at Pudukottai Medical College, District Revenue Officer D.Shanthi recalled the greatness of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddi, surgeon, educator, lawmaker and social reformer, who was born in 1886 in Pudukkottai.

Meenakshi Sundaram, Dean, requested the doctors to work with dedication towards rendering healthcare services. Saplings were planted and a mini exhibition was arranged on the services and infrastructure available at the hospital.

Officers and employees, who had put in outstanding service, were presented with commendation certificates by Ms. Shanthi.

Sampath Kumar, secretary, Kamban Kazhagam, Thangam Murthy, Correspondent, Venkateswara Matric School, and Dayananda Chandrasekhara Swamigal of Thilagavathiar Thiruvarul Adheenam participated.

Students offered floral tributes to Dr.Reddi’s statue at a function organised by Thilagavathiar Thiruvarul Adheenam. Tailoring machines were distributed to poor widows. ‘Hospital Day’ was observed at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital attached to K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College in Tiruchi.
