Musical evening

The Tiruchi Kendra of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan would host a musical evening on May 2 in the city featuring a flute concert by M. Subramania Siva and a vocal concert by J. Balagirish. The event was part of Bhavan’s attempts to promote young talent in association with the Infosys Foundation. The event would be held at the Sringeri Sankara Mutt premises at Amma Mandapam Road in Srirangam, according to an official press release.

Census draft copy

Members of the public could submit their representations with respect to the draft copy of Socio Economic and Caste Census in the relevant forms, Collector K.S.Palanisamy said. The draft copy of the Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 has been released. Objections can be submitted in Form A, requests for correction and changes in Form B and inclusions in Form C.

4.34 lakh people given freebies

About 4.34 lakh beneficiaries have been provided free fans, mixers, and grinders in the district over the past four years at a cost of Rs. 179.91 crore, T.P. Poonachi, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries, said here on Saturday. Mr. Poonachi disclosed this while distributing the free appliances to 2,709 families at Crawford in the city. R. Manoharan, Chief Whip, K.S. Palanisamy, Collector, and A. Jaya, Mayor, were present.
