The Mukkombu Park, a favourite hangout of picknickers near here, has been given a facelift with improved amenities in place.
A slew of amenities have been provided at this picnic spot which attracts visitors during weekends and on holidays.
The sprawling park adjoining the barrage sports a new look now with the Public Works Department (PWD) completing several work at the park situated off Tiruchi-Karur highway. The Tourism Department had allocated Rs. 3.10 crore for the project.

The toy train which had been in disuse for sometime would be re-introduced soon with track having been laid with new sleepers and rails inside the park area.
The muddy pathways had been replaced with proper pavements for the visitors to take a walk around the park. Provision of artificial waterfalls and dancing fountains, renovation of water slides, and provision of boat rides form part of the host of facilities to enthral visitors.
In addition to these, a couple of overhead water tanks had been built to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply for the visitors besides establishment of public sanitary complexes separately for men and women.

A new bathing ghat had been established and compound wall to a length of nearly 700 metres has been constructed as part of the project. An aquarium is yet another added attraction to the visitors.
A new building to house police outpost had been built to ensure safety of the visitors teeming the picnic spot. A few days ago, the police had installed surveillance cameras at vantage points at Mukkombu to keep a tab on the activities taking place inside.
The PWD officials say all works taken up to renovate the Mukkombu park have been completed.
