Medico-legal case manual released

Prescribes procedures to be adopted

A manual on procedures to be adopted in medico-legal cases was released at a seminar organised earlier this week by Tiruchi Ortho Club.

Drafted, modified and jointly issued by the Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association, the Indian Medical Association and the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, Model Consent was released by O.V. Nandimath, Registrar.

The manual is expected to be gain statutary status after discussions.

The manual envisages bringing about uniformity in the medical field in adoption of the procedures.

Around 200 doctors of various specialities took part in the seminar of TNOA-IMA that envisaged allaying fears in the minds of medical professionals in dealing with medico-legal cases intelligently, seminar convenor J. Terrence Jose Jerome, Managing Partner, Olympia Hospital and Research Centre, said.

The seminar began with a moot court conducted by students of School of Law, SASTRA University.

Doctors keenly observed the court scenes, accounts of expert witnesses, cross-examinations and defence arguments.

Presiding over the seminar, R. Muralidharan, president, TNOA, said there was a critical need to deliver better healthcare under safer circumstances.

Mr. Nandimath discussed a range of medico-legal issues and apprised the doctors of intricate contemporary landmark judgments.
