Mathur man’s organs harvested after his death in accident

Vital organs of yet another accident victim, who was declared brain dead, were harvested at a private hospital in the city and used for needy patients on Saturday.

According to hospital authorities, P. Kamlesh Kumar (26), who had been employed as electrician at a private firm at Mathur on the outskirts of the city, met with a road accident near Mathur on May 8 and was admitted to the Government Hospital in the city with a severe head injury.

Investigations revealed severe brain stem injury and he was treated by a team of critical care specialists.

However, he was declared brain dead.

The parents of the youth wished to donate his vital organs and informed the Cethar Hospital in the city.

On Saturday, a team of seven doctors harvested the liver, kidneys, and eyes. The liver was used for a patient with end-stage liver disease who required a cadaveric transplant at the Cethar Hospital itself.

The kidneys were sent to Frontline Hospitals and the eyes to AG Eye Hospital, Tiruchi.

The retrieved organs were used by the hospitals according to Tamil Nadu Organ Network Sharing waiting list, a hospital release said.
