Manipur women undergo training at NRCB

A group of unemployed women graduates from Manipur underwent a five-day entrepreneurship training at ICAR- National Research Centre for Banana in Tiruchi recently.

The training focussed on banana fibre extraction and utilisation. At a felicitation held at the NRCB on Thursday, Sibi Adithya Senthil Kumar, Sub Collector, Srirangam, appreciated the institute for supporting the youth in taking up business ventures.

S. Uma, Director, NRCB, congratulated the trainees for choosing horticulture, especially banana by-products, as their business option and asked them to have long-time goals to achieve sustainability.

K.N. Shiva and P. Suresh Kumar, course coordinators, said the entrepreneurs learnt new skills on fibre extraction and preservation and using the same for making handicrafts, bio-plates and sanitary napkins.

In addition, the trainees were also exposed to more than 30 value-added products produced from flour, ripe banana and wastes like central stem, flower, and pickle.
