‘Workers' welfare is the priority'

The State Government accords priority for the welfare of construction workers and implements several schemes for workers in the unorganised sector, said Pon.Kumar, Chairman of Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board, here on Saturday.

Addressing a meeting after reviewing the implementation of schemes for construction as well as other workers of 16 workers welfare boards at Ariyalur cement factory campus here, Mr Pon.Kumar said that Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi has created 31 welfare boards for workers of unorganised sector.

Nearly three crore workers had registered their names in the welfare boards and about three lakh workers had been provided assistance of more than Rs.101 crore. He said that about 27,000 workers had registered their names in Ariyalur district of which about 8,000 workers were provided welfare assistance of more than Rs.1.50 crore.

Mr Pon.Kumar said pension was being given to workers who had completed 60 years of age. He distributed assistance to 25 beneficiaries. Collector T.Abraham was present.
