Life Insurance Agents’ Federation of India (LIAFI) has appealed to the Centre not to withdraw the renewal commission and hereditary commission given to the Life Insurance Corporation agents under section 44 of the Insurance Act 1938.
V.T. Kalaiselvan, Zonal President of the LIAFI, and P. Veeranan, Zonal Secretary, told presspersons that the LIC agents were on continuous agitation programmes in all the 13 divisions in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry in support of their demands. “We sent e-mail of our demands to our chairman and Union Finance Minister on January 16.
We organised a dharna wearing black badges in front of branch offices on January 20 and 21. On January 31, we will cook and dine in front of all branches,” said Mr. Kalaiselvan.

Agitation programmes would continue till March 31. Postcards will be sent to LIC chairman and Union Finance Minister on February 4 and 5. Their other demands include increasing bonus for LIC policy holders, removing service tax on policies, waiving Income tax on maturity amount of the policy from October 1, 2014, increasing group insurance to Rs. 10 lakh, payment of gratuity of Rs. 5 lakh to agents, creation of welfare fund for agents, payment of incentive to direct and professional agents.
