Minister inaugurates work on District Industries Centre in Karur

The State government is imparting the required thrust to stimulate growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises, Transport Minister V. Senthil Balaji has said.

Participating in the bhumi puja to mark the commencement of construction work of the building to house the District Industries Centre here on Sunday, Mr. Balaji said Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was intent on fast tracking industrial development. Several incentives and stimulus schemes have been announced for entrepreneurs and industrialists in the past two years.

Pointing out that the New Entrepreneur-cum-Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS) has been a hit with the potential entrepreneurs willing to take the industrial route to success, Mr. Balaji said the State government had been doing its bit to stimulate the industrial growth that could generate thousands of jobs to skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled work force.

Despite the downturn in global economic situation, the Chief Minister was determined to steady the industrial ship of the State by implementing a slew of schemes. Understanding that MSME sector formed the backbone of the manufacturing and services sector in the country, the State government was particular on fostering MSME units providing handholding services to the extent possible.

The Minister said the new building to house the District Industries Centre would come up at a cost of Rs. 1.50 crore near Thanthonrimalai area and would be able to provide seamless service to entrepreneurs and industrialists who had propelled Karur to the global textile, mosquito net, and coach building industrial scene. Rural industries would get the required attention to develop into profit spinning ventures, he added.

Later, the Minister declared open a water source facility of borewell and pump inside the combined court complex that was established at a cost of Rs. 5 lakh made available from the MLA’s Local Area Development Fund.
