Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M.Karunanidhi on Saturday blamed the AIADMK government in the State for the rise in prices of essential commodities.

Price rise is the only benefit that people have derived from voting the AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa to power, he said campaigning for the party candidates in Tiruchi , Karur and Perambalur constituencies here.

“People dreamt of getting good governance. But the first thing that her government did was to increase the price of many essential commodities, imposing a heavy burden on the people” he said reading out a comparison of the current prices of various essential commodities with the prices prevailed when she assumed power.

But Ms.Jayalalithaa, he said, is not bothered about these things and is only keen on amassing wealth, he charged. Though she had announced that she would draw only Re.1 as her salary, she has acquired several properties and will continue to do so, he alleged.

Mr.Karunanidhi wound up his speech 10 minutes before the stipulated time limit of 10 p.m., as a boisterous crowd in the front raised a din by whistling and hooting despite his appeals for calm.

Although Mr.Karunanidhi appealed to the cadres to settle down right at the beginning, the noisy cadres remained uncontrollable forcing the abrupt end to his speech.
